Join our friends from video-podcast Desktops in the Cloud. Normally on YouTube, however, now live and exclusive at the WVD TechFest 2021 event! This session will include most of the lessons learned from all episodes + Christiaan & Dean’s own tech experiences and visions around Windows Virtual Desktop. One demo-rich session not to miss, that's for sure!
Windows Virtual Desktop extent the possibilities of End-User-Computing in the Mircosoft Azure cloud. There are many ways to manage the desktops and handle the application life-cycle. One straightforward way of doing that is by using free community solutions and modern software distribution technologies. Let's start managing WVD like a pro with WVDAdmin, a bunch of automatisms and the Windows Package Manager
Automation is a key part of any WVD deployment. A great way of automating your WVD deployments is using Azure Resource Manager JSON templates. But how do you overcome the complexity of ARM templates and still leverage its power? Project ‘Bicep’ provides the answer! In this demo heavy session, you’ll learn how to empower your WVD Deployments using project ‘Bicep’! We’ll take a look at deploying a WVD environment from scratch and also touch upon Azure Image Builder, Shared Image Gallery and leveraging GPU’s along the way!
A quiz for our attendees, where you can win a super nice swag bag provided by our partners!
"Last year I was challenged to dive into GitHub Actions. And those of you that know me, already figured out that challenge was accepted quickly to extend my Azure Automation adventures to level up my GitHub n00b status. In this session I will show you how GitHub Actions helped me to create workflows that automatically build, test, publish, release, and deploy Infrastructure as Code and create my first automated Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) and Azure Image Builder (AIB) CI/CD workflow. Starring GitHub Actions, cool demos and guest appearances of Azure Image Builder and the Shared Image Gallery!"
Find out how to make you Windows Virtual Desktop resilient to failures, what Microsoft can do for you and what you have to do yourself.
In this presentation, I will summarize the benefits of using MSIX App Attach. I will demonstrate the packaging of a MSIX and provide some hints and tips to get round some of the common challenges associated when packaging applications. Then finish off with delivering the final MSIX image to Windows Virtual Desktop. Content covered: Summary overview of MSIX Creating a MSIX Challenges associated and hints and tips. Creating a MSIX image. Deploying to WVD. Content covered: Summary overview of MSIX Creating a MSIX Challenges associated and hints and tips. Creating a MSIX image. Deploying to WVD.
Have you been managing your infrastructure with automation or Infrastructure as Code(IaC)? Do you want to know more about using Terraform to deploy Windows Virtual Desktop? Learn about getting started on Terraform basics, providers, and using Terraform for WVD from a non-coder perspective.
"Setting up, managing, and optimizing Windows Virtual Desktop environments is no easy task, never mind if it’s for a few dozens of thousands of users/machines. The learning curve is steep and the feature gap huge. Nerdio takes away all of that. We will save you (a lot of) time, (a lot of) money, and make sure that over 80% of your IT workforce will be able to handle WVD, with ease. Automation, simplicity, logic, and a bit of magic are the key words here! In only 45 minutes you will learn about: • WVD (image) management made easy and efficient • How to stand up a WVD Workspace, hostpool, hosts, and assign users in minutes • How to save up to 75% on Azure compute and storage costs • Onboard existing WVD deployments, in minutes • A ton of features not available on the native WVD platform • Nerdio Manager for WVD Community Edition "
In this session MVP’s/NGCA’s Fredrik Brattstig & Thomas Poppelgaard will learn you about the offerings in Azure with NVIDIA and WVD. Learn the insights comparison with non-accelerated and accelerated multiuser sessions. Learn the insights of enabling graphics demanding workloads, and how to get it going.
sepago's Azure Monitor for WVD was one of the first cloud-native solutions to monitor WVD session hosts and is still a first-choice solution to get real insights into the user sessions. In comparison to Microsoft's native monitoring, sepago's agent collects user-specific data, including bandwidth, latency, FSLog timing, GPO processing duration, and performance data of every single process in each user session. Let us start to discover the solution and drill down into the data.
In this session Adam and Thomas will guide you through how NVV4 azure instances are powered by AMD CPU & GPU. Learn why GPU matters in WVD and how it can value your workloads. See insights how it works, what it supports and how it scales. In this session you will learn why GPU’s are required for your WVD.
"While WVD users can work in virtual desktops on virtual hardware in virtualized data centers from anywhere in the world, eventually, some of their work has to be printed to one of the 650 million printers in existence, preferably the one the user is expecting to print. Printing has been a pain for Solutions Architects, IT admins and users alike. We want to help by pointing out situations where WVDs built-in printing just doesn’t cut it and showcase cloud printing with ezeep as solution. After this presentation you will: • Understand how printing in WVD works • Know what to look out for when printing is part of your project • Consider ezeep Blue for your next WVD project"
Azure Files is a fully Fileshare solution available with SMB or NFS in Azure without need to manage a VM. Based on the experiences from various WVD projects, this session will discuss how Azure Fileshares can be used as a WVD Profilestore solution. The session will cover the different performance options available, how AD DS authentication via SMB works for and what sizes this solution is well suited for.
Does Microsoft Teams really work on Windows Virtual Desktop? This session will go through the requirements, setup and result of a Teams Media optimizations on WVD. We will also try this on a GPU powered VM and spot the differences.
VDI-solutions are broadly created with a golden image model. In 2020 we are encouraged to create the golden image with image builders such as Hashicorp Packer or Azure Image Builder. If you can wait only couple of moments the creation of new host, you can implement everything dynamically without golden image by using Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune or ConfigMgr). Save time and get better service for end customers with the right choice of the deployment method. This session tells secrets and out-of-box thinking why and how to implement dynamic host deployment without the traditional golden image.
To have workload in the cloud do have it’s challenges, both with security and management but also with the costs. We really don’t want to pay more than we use and misconfiguration can make the bill go through the roof. How can we calculate and optimize our workload in Azure? What does it cost to have a Windows Virtual Desktop environment in Azure? Which Microsoft 365 licenses are valid for WVD? And how can we calculate disaster recovery scenarios for WVD? Join this session to save money on your WVD environment and WFH scenario!
In this session, you will learn the differences between Azure DevOps & GitHub Actions, but also see how you can use both Automation services to deploy WVD!
IN this session i will discuss lessons i have learnt from deploying WVD but also additional services with regards to security (MFA), on-premises Integration and also Identity Management.
An often-overlooked option for deploying Host Pools is to enable a validation environment. However, a validation environment can provide important insight into changes to a host pool. This session takes an in-depth look into Validation Host Pools and how to incorporate them into an image lifecycle management strategy.
